YUA in Mitrovica, Kosovo

After the successful start-up of Kriterion in Sarajevo, YUA started a new project in Mitrovica, Kosovo, in the summer of 2011.

Mitrovica is a divided city in Kosovo. Divided by the river Ibar, Serbs live in the North and Albanians live in the South of the city. Unfortunately, there is very little contact and exchange between both parts of the city due to ongoing tensions. At both sides of the river, the population is extremely young (in Kosovo at a whole, 50% is under the age of 30). Youngsters have poor perspectives with an unemployment rate of 60%. Also, cultural activities and entertainment is rather absent. A good reason for YUA to assist 2 young teams in starting-up (cultural) entrepreneurship projects. The projects aim to offer the motivated students jobs and entrepreneurial experience. YUA stimulates entrepreneurship and creates opportunities for youngsters in Mitrovica to improve their perspectives. SPARK supports YUA in the Mitrovica projects.
