Kriterion Mitrovica
After the great success of Kriterion Sarajevo, YUA started to work in Mitrovica in the summer of 2011. Mitrovica is a politically unstable city in Kosovo. The city is divided by the river Ibar; with Serbians living on the North side and Albanians on the South. Unfortunately the relation between the two parts of the city is tense and there is little communication between North and South Mitrovica. On both sides of the river there are many young people (50% of the population of Kosovo is under 30). Young people have poor employment prospects (60% unemployment) and there is very little in the way of recreational or cultural facilities for them.
More than enough reasons for YUA to get involved and explore possibilities to set up sustainable cultural youth projects with young people in Kosovo. YUA aims to develop cultural facilities and to provide motivated students and young people with job opportunities. To gain work experience and strengthen entrepreneurial skills.
